I never knew how Ricard sponsorship came on the flanks of that Ensign. I mean Ricard is a huge and very rich company, it could easily sponsor a whole team at the time, just as Martini did. And it had a connection with Motorsport through the Paul Ricard track, and sponsorship in Moto GP. How did it end as a small sticker on the flanks of a middle to rear rank British team?

Only at Watkins Glen 1975. At that time the Dutch Hoogenboom Company and/or Ensign were looking for a sub-sponsor for 1976. There were negotiations with Ricard at that time. At the end of 1975 Hoogenboom and Ensign split up in a not to pleasant way. The car was claimed by Hoogenboom after a court case and raced in 1976 as the Boro, Ensign continued racing the old N174 and later the the N176 with Chris Amon. I think Ricard simply walked away from all this, not wanting to be involved anymore.
